💬 Sunday Reflections #50 (food memories)
Plus the September round-up and my food memory you'll need to brace for
🎧 You can catch me presenting this week’s episode of BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme called Nuts about Nuts — listen via BBC Sounds or wherever you usually get your podcasts from.
Hi! This is Leyla from A Day Well Spent, a newsletter seeking pathways to more purposeful living.
Hello there October 🎃 And welcome to the 50th Sunday Reflections!
For new subscribers, welcome to our twice monthly gathering. This is our intimate and friendly space for community and accountability. And the last (or first) Sunday of the month is always a juicy one.
How it works
On two Sundays each month I pose a prompt or question which we discuss (and say hi) in the comments. Topics tend to cover self-empowerment and personal growth and these regular check-ins allow us to share our wisdoms and get to know ourselves and the other members of the A Day Well Spent community better.
Feel free to have a browse through previous Sunday Reflections to get an idea of the stuff we talk about.
Before we begin, the September round-up
In case you missed them, here are all my published pieces from the month in one handy list.
1. I was recently asked to define my ‘style’
It was a challenge. And it made me think about what having style means to me. This essay is what I came up with (includes 📸).
Plus, a lesson in being explicit about what you want.
2. This is Europe’s best kept festival secret
A family-friendly, four day food, music, culture and wine festival - for just €10. I had a wonderful time.
Every few weeks, I ask someone who inspires me, interests me and embodies the ethos of this newsletter, 15 quickfire questions.
Climate economist, wind chaser and farm lover, Catherine Chong, shared her day well spent, along with her very interesting backstory.
4. TV used to dominate my life
I was raised by my parents and — the television. Until just a few years ago, watching TV used to dominate my life. Then I had a realisation that changed everything.
5. What are you looking forward to?
We shared our answers to this question and it’s had one of the highest number of comments to date — thank you to this wonderful community for getting so involved!
This time last year
Here are the pieces I published in October last year you might also enjoy this coming month:
Italy’s finest sparkling wine: all you need to know about Prosecco DOC
Sunday Reflections: alone time, learning stuff and about YOU
The guest writing spots have now been filled!
This time last month I put a call out for story pitches from those who might be interested in having their writing published here on A Day Well Spent, for when I will be on the road for a few weeks.
I’m pleased to share all the spots have now been filled — you guys are in for a treat!
You’ll start seeing these excellent essays on topics I find fascinating (and therefore, hope you will too) towards the end of the year. I look forward to sharing these new voices with you.
Please accept my apologies for not being able to reply to those who were unsuccessful, but I received far more pitches than I was expecting.
If you submitted a pitch, thank you for taking the time to do so. And please do not let that put you off pitching again in the future (to me or to anyone else); I had a very finite number of spaces to fill.
A big WELCOME to new community members
Should you join this community and leave a message when doing so, it would be a lovely thing to read and I’ll be sure to share it in these monthly round-ups.
To all new members who have joined this month, welcome!
Sunday is for awakening the mind, body and spirit 🧘
Now let’s begin.
Today’s topic: food memories (brace yourselves for mine…)
