I had a really great chat with my dear and talented friend earlier this week as part of her fab Kitchen Hang series.
We talked about so many things.
Including:
why the way we live isn’t working
societal conditioning
when city life is no longer what you yearn for
reconnecting with lost practical skills
ways to feel more self-empowered
my plans for our 3-acres in rural Portugal
how food can heal
the potency of herbal remedies
a showcase of my very niche kitchen gadgets
the art of patience in permaculture
my recent big announcement and accompanying debut book (the one I wrote in complete secret)
And even more than that — we really do cover a lot.
I’ve watched our chat back whilst writing this post and it really is such a great conversation; Rosie is an intensely interested and interesting person and therefore, she asks brilliant questions.
We had a lot of people tune in live — a surprising amount!
Thank you to those who asked us questions live too. I was especially grateful for the nice comment about my hair, considering I had woken up just an hour before (late riser, it’s an affliction — see point 8).
After Rosie’s Substack Lives have happened, these inspiring chats are usually reserved for her paying members only to retrospectively view.
But she has very kindly encouraged me to share our particular episode with all of my readers, which is very generous of Rosie.
Also, I realise I am completely Wimbledon branded in this — both my jumper and mug. Unintentional. But the outskirts of Wimbledon in southwest London has been my home for the past 15 years and I will miss it when we leave this summer.
Please enjoy this conversation between two good friends about big life things.
Then do have a read of Rosie’s recent beautiful piece about why she left London to move to the sea a few years ago; there are a lot of overlaps with where I am at now (btw we both still love London — just not to live in).
To learn more about the wonderful Rosie, also check out this interview she responded to on A Day Well Spent back in June 2023 — the same month I started this newsletter.
(I’ve just realised we’re coming up to the two year anniversary of A Day Well Spent..!)
📕Pathways is my debut book, a two-part limited edition special with independent publisher The Pound Project.
Part memoir, part manifesto, part guide, this book chronicles my decision to leave the only life I've known to answer a calling to live off the land in rural Portugal. It's an honest look at the absurdities of modern life and how we can cut through the noise to pursue a more fulfilling existence.
Pathways is on sale now for a limited time, until 27th May only. Worldwide print delivery and e-book available.
To celebrate Pathways being on sale from 6th - 27th May, anything I publish on A Day Well Spent will be free to read and the comments open to everyone, for the duration of this period ❤️
I (we!) would love to hear your thoughts on our conversation.
