Greetings, July
May news reports told us to expect the wettest summer in the UK in 100 years. Now, I don’t want to jinx anything. But after a slow and soggy first half, the latter part of June turned out to be a completely glorious month.
My aubergines have had their first flowers (this is early for me), I’ve harvested over 1kg of raspberries so far and everything in the garden is growing great guns.
Even the sweet potato vines…
Welcome to Sunday Reflections ☕
For new subscribers, welcome to our twice monthly gathering! This is our intimate and friendly space for community and accountability. And the last (or first) Sunday of the month is always a juicy one.
How it works
On two Sundays each month I pose a prompt or question which we discuss (and say hi) in the comments. Topics tend to cover self-empowerment and personal growth and these regular check-ins allow us to share our wisdoms and get to know ourselves and the other members of the A Day Well Spent community better.
Feel free to have a browse through previous Sunday Reflections to get an idea of the stuff we talk about.
Before we begin, the June round-up
In case you missed them, here are all my published pieces from the month in one handy list.
I wrote about true wealth and what it means to me. Including a parable about a fisherman and a businessman.
2. 'Take risks and follow your gut'
I asked Japanese American food writer, Buddhist and fermenting fanatic, Kenji Morimoto, 15 quickfire questions.
3. This is my daily sweet treat and it's actually... good for me
One of the best things you can do to improve your diet is to incorporate more beans into it. This is a ludicrously easy recipe for irresistibly chocolatey brownies that are actually good for you.
Because as well as beetroot, the key ingredient in these brownies are beans.
Yes, beans.
4. How we had a London wedding for less than £15,000
How we managed to DIY most of our wedding and how it came in at under £15,000 for 87 guests, on a Saturday, with an open bar, live music, incredible food and at a central London venue. With pics and a cinematic 3 minute highlights video from the day.
We shared the invaluable tips that make household tasks easier. So many good ones!
This time last year
Here are the pieces I published in July last year you might also enjoy this month:
Substack can be cruel but here's why I love it
The easiest, quickest and most reliable way to grow basil
A big WELCOME to new community members
Should you join this community and leave a message when doing so, it would be a lovely thing to read and I’ll be sure to share it in these monthly round-ups.
Gab and Bridgeen — thank you for your kind words and along with all other June new joiners, welcome!
Sunday is for awakening the mind, body and spirit 🧘
Now let’s begin.
Today’s topic: what we cannot see (or measure)
