Catching up on this article and loved this line “is what I am doing today moving me towards the life I want?” Taking a career break, giving myself space and time to deal with burnout, trying to realign my mental and physical health…this is a great reminder and I’m going to write this on a post-it note and stick it on my bathroom mirror as a reminder to myself everyday.

I thought u would say that you exist and Santa no. If I say: “I saw Santa Clause” someone will say to me: “try this amazing white shirt u can close from the back and hug urself, it’s our best seller inside our mental hospital”. 🤣🤣🤣

Only few weeks to receive ur book, this yr it’s all about waiting.

It’s from yesterday that I’m checking the price of the house in UK and Portugal 😅, for sure UK it’s so expensive not only for the drinks 🍸 and Portugal have better prices even compared to my zone of Italy in the south are cheaper.

I never thought u checked the price in UK, of course it make sense but I always imagined u in Portugal or in the South of Italy or in some island.

I love everything u said in each point, and I realised I’ve done more or less an extremely small version of it when I moved to San Giovanni in Persiceto, I saw how changed the life in Bologna and I decided to find a quiet place where I could have a small garden and cultivate some veggie and experiment, this yr I’m trying with peanuts.

One day we will have an house in the countryside.

What I don’t understand is why there are so many people who have the possibility to change the things and they don’t do nothing? I can understand people in the US because one day they will spend all they money to buy a bandaid, but the others?

Why there isn’t a way to change the things, how it have to be so difficult finding a solution?

I had no idea about the obesity in UK, it could be maybe because in the school kids and adults should learn more on nutrition and food?

In Italy we have our problem with obesity too I guess and also Italian eating a lot of ultra processed food, but there is always a sort of invisible line u know what is good for u and what’s not, so the junk food it’s more a thing u eat once in a week to do something different.

For the chicken I will reveals u a secret from the family of Davide.. but my big reveal will be on 1 June… SUSPENCE…

Just kidding 😝😝😝

I will tell u now, I just wanted to write it like if it was a big announcement.

If u will have chicken in the winter they reduce the number of eggs sometimes they stop, so if u want to have eggs they have to eat warm foods, u can add warm water to their food and chickens will start making eggs again.

One day u will make a perfect tiramisu made with the eggs of ur chickens.

Thanks a lot like always, can’t wait to read ur book FINALLY!

I think it will have a big impact on a lot of people and all in different ways.

I realised now that it could arrive when I will be on holiday, so I could will have to wait until my return it’s unfair 😭😭.

Have a wonderful evening Leyla and everyone!!

🤣🤣 Laura!! I love your attempt at the big announcement! 🤣 If the book arrives while you are away, what a lovely gift that will be for you when you get home! Also, I knew about chickens laying less in winter but the hot food tip is absolutely brilliant! I will keep this in mind. Grazie mille, Laura!

It’s also the perfect gift that I made to myself for my birthday thanks for choosing June for the shipment 🤩.

Grazie a te Leyla!

Right now I'm tired because we drove the trip from Italy to Germany yesterday, so my thoughts are fuzzy. But I need to tell you, and I suspect you know this, your ethos stirs that part of me that knows what's right and what's wrong, you make me want to write about it, because I've been living it and am going to live it more.

We've just bought property on Italy with structures from the 1500s which we will restore, enough walled gardening space for many vegetables and a guest apartment for friends ( hint hint). We're selling up here in Germany to spend the rest of this lifetime living simply and well, continuing this journey towards natural living we started in 2003.

Your books are on the way and I can't wait to spend time with you through your words.

And I can't wait to start writing about it as well.

Life is grand if we work for what we know to be right.

You keep dropping posts that make me more and more excited about receiving your book Leyla! Love these answers and many align with my own views and reasons why I originally made the decision to become Vegan. Sadly much of the Vegan food that is now on the shelves is over processed and unhealthy to eat and bad for the environment, so I’m weaning myself off this junk and going back to raw foods. I grew up helping my parents grow the food we ate at home and would love to be able to do that again. I can’t wait to hear about your new adventure.

Thank you dear Dawud! Yes, anything pre-packaged and readymade, be it vegan or not, is mostly pretty bad for us. Same goes with the 'free from' ranges, they are largely highly processed and full of duff. Real foods, as Nature produced, is the best way to go :) Do you grow anything in your garden Dawud? I think your recently finished dec is calling out for some vegetables in pots!!

We made the move and then I get immobilized with a disease that is untreatable and incurable. Best I can do is what I try to do to remain stable and that;s waning too, I am not complaining. I have had a rich and rewarding life, grateful for these 88 years and see death down the road as peace and a friend waiting patiently.

So worth thinking about. Start where we are at and do things that we can believe in. We don’t have to go homestead to get in on this!

You mentioned foraging which is worth a go. Another thing many of us can do is buy produce from local farmers. Cook and ferment our own foods to supplement what we buy pre-packaged. Play with sourdough starter. Try making our own “protein bars.” Grow a few tomatoes and peppers on the balcony. Make our own fruit wine. There are so many ways to become part of our own more sustainable food chain.
