💬 Sunday Reflections #32 (WOTY)
Word Of The Year, that is. It's a new thing I'm trying. Want to have a go?
Hi! This is Leyla from A Day Well Spent, a newsletter seeking pathways to more purposeful living. If you’re reading this by chance - welcome! You can enter your email below to ensure you never miss my posts (most Thursdays and Sundays):
Welcome to Sunday Reflections ☕
For new subscribers, welcome to our weekly gathering! This is our intimate and friendly space for community and accountability.
How it works
Each Sunday I pose a prompt or question which we discuss (and say hi) in the comments. Topics tend to cover self-empowerment and personal growth and these weekly check-ins allow us to share our wisdoms and get to know ourselves and the other members of the A Day Well Spent community better.
Feel free to have a browse through previous Sunday Reflections to get an idea of the stuff we talk about, which include monthly New Moon intention setting.
ICYMI
Thursday’s post was a new entry in the You Can Do This series where I share accessible, self-empowering and practical how to guides anyone can do, that will hopefully help you acquire a new life skill.
When I first learnt you can make your own wall paint from completely natural (and even edible) materials, I thought it was so damn cool. And it makes complete sense — there’s still vivid paint in the ancient dwellings of cavemen that are thousands of years old and I’m pretty sure they weren’t using Dulux.
A wonderful tried and tested recipe for making beautiful and durable natural paint from… potatoes (!) with loads of process tips, by French permaculture designer Anne-Sophie: how to make natural wall paint. I can’t wait to try it myself.
And this time last week we set our intentions for the first New Moon of the year — quite glorious!
Before we begin
A Dad posted this image of his daughter with a new haircut on his Instagram and tagged me in it, ‘Evelyn wanted her hair to be cut like @leyla.kazim’:
This is amazing to me 😭❤️ Evelyn is now my style icon.
I sent Dad Matthew the link to short hair and why it took me 30+ years to do it to which he replied:
“We will totally read your article at Evelyn's bed time Leyla. She already feels empowered by her new hair and your comments. Thank you.”
So obviously, that left me in pieces. Evelyn and every other little kid daring to be a bit different, breaking down the patriarchy, one iconic hair do at a time.
Go get it, Evelyn!
Lovely words
Please allow me to also share these words written by
(yes the Sian Clifford aka Claire from Fleabag) from this post, a screenshot of which did the rounds on my family WhatsApp group, my Instagram, Twitter and anywhere else that would host a .jpg.I think these are the most meaningful sentences that have ever been written about me and I may even get them printed and stuck above my desk to have a little glance at during those moments of doubt. Thank you again, Sian.
